2 March 2017 at Davos (Switzerland) – VIYM is pleased to announce the official opening of the 4-star Spenglers Hotel in Davos.
The Spenglers Hotel’s technical opening took place on 15 December 2016, on the eve of the World Economic Forum and marked the completion of the first phase of the project to restore the 3-star Alexander Grand Hotel into an upscale 4-star hotel development, comprising an 80-room hotel and Holsboer Residences’ 31 serviced apartments (with 7 apartments available in phase 1). The design concept for the hotel and apartment complex was developed by leading international architectural firm Woods Bagot.
The opening ceremony for Spenglers Hotel included a reception at which guests were treated to a special programme of events, a buffet, a tour of the hotel and apartment complex and services available. Invited guests included representatives of local administration, key Russian and international media, as well as investors and partners.
Dmitry Schuetzle, Managing Director at VIYM, said:
“We are pleased to announce the completion of reconstruction work and the official opening of the Spenglers Hotel complex in Davos – one of Switzerland’s oldest and most popular resorts. Spenglers Hotel is the second project involving the redevelopment and reconstruction of a European hotel that VIYM has successfully realised. The hotel has already been highly appraised on quality by the most important judges – its guests – during the last economic forum in Davos. I am confident that, thanks to its stylish design, impeccable service, and high-tech solutions this hotel, its restaurants, and bars, will win over both tourists and locals alike.”
The hotel development will be fully brought into operation in the third quarter of 2018. During the second phase, the complex of 8 apartments and Wellness centre will be put into service (2017), and the third phase will see the completion of a complex of 16 apartments (2018).
Market overview:
- Switzerland’s hotel industry is the driving force of the country’s tourism industry. World Tourism Organization figures indicate that the country’s average international tourist flow is over 9 million visitors per year.
- The Swiss tourism market ranks 16th in the annual WTO rating. The tourist sector generates an annual turnover of over CHF 9 billion and employs around 65,000 full-time staff.
- Davos is located in the Graubünden canton, which is Switzerland’s second most popular tourist destination after Zurich. Hotel room occupancy nationwide stands at 51.5%.
- Although the tourist industry is traditionally characterised by its highly fragmented structure (about 6,000 hotels – most of them family owned), today international investors and developers are showing increasing interest in investing in the hotel sector.
